Big Dog Brag

With races throughout Colorado, Big Dog Brag has two different courses participants can pick.

The first is a 5k with 25 obstacles for anyone 13 and up. The second course is 2k and is designed for ages 6 and up. It is geared toward family-friendly fun.

Organizers insist that the race will be like “controlled chaos” with thousands of fellow mud obstacle enthusiasts alongside each other. Racers should expect to get covered in mud and dirt.

Organizers highly encourage that racers wear costumes to increase the fun, even if just matching t-shirts. However, a good pair of running shoes is essential to this race.

Race Course Information

The big dog brag includes the following obstacles:

  • Water slides
  • Cargo net climbs
  • Scaling walls
  • Canyon traverses
  • Mud challenges
  • Tarzan swings
  • Monkey bars
  • Tunnel crawls

All fitness levels are welcome as long as participants can walk at least 3 miles, even with breaks if necessary. There is no swimming involved, but racers can expect to wade into knee deep mud and to crawl through mud pits.

Race Registration ans Prize Information

Teams are allowed and may be as large as 200. Prizes will be given out for teams with the best costumes from votes from their fellow racers and Big Dog judges.

Contestants may also participate alone as the course is designed for racers to go at their own pace with a good time in mind. Regular runners often complete the course in about 45 minutes, with most runners taking 60-90 minutes.

However, the race is not chipped timed and will only have an unofficial running clock available. All contestants will get a finisher medal, although they’ll be disqualified from top finisher awards. Event photos show runners covered completely in mud and even sliding head first into the muck.
